Organizer guide: Recommended fraud filter settings for Authorize.Net (AFDS)
If you are using Authorize.Net as your payment processor, we recommend the following fraud filter settings to reduce transaction issues and protect against fraudulent activity. These settings are optimized to ensure compatibility with Showpass while maintaining fraud safeguards.
Important: For all fraud filters that support it, the action should be set to Decline. Do not configure any filters to place transactions into review.
Note: Some filters do not include a “decline” option—these should typically be disabled as detailed below.
Recommended fraud filter settings
✅ OK to enable (with proper settings)
- Amount Filter: Only enable if you want to limit large purchases across your entire Authorize account. Not recommended for typical ticket sales.
-
Transaction IP Velocity Filter: Enable only if you add Showpass Box Office IPs to the exclusion list:
- 34.83.8.110
- 34.168.12.250
- 35.230.81.80
- 35.230.119.67
- IP Address Blocking: Optional. Use if you have a list of suspicious IPs to block.
- Regional IP Address Filter: Optional. Use to block or flag regions known for fraud.
- Enhanced CCV Handling Filter: Recommended. Use the default settings or stricter rules depending on your risk tolerance.
❌ Should be disabled
- Hourly Velocity Filter: Never enable. It interferes with valid bulk purchases.
- Shipping-Billing Mismatch Filter: Do not enable. Showpass does not send shipping info.
- Suspicious Transaction Filter: Cannot automatically decline. Disable to prevent silent rejections.
- Authorized AIM IP Addresses: Only use if required by another provider. Otherwise, disable.
- Enhanced AVS Handling Filter: Disable. AVS checks can block Box Office sales where billing data isn't collected.
- Shipping Address Verification Filter: Disable. Showpass does not send shipping addresses.
- IP Shipping Address Mismatch Filter: Disable. No shipping data is submitted.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some filters set to decline while others should be disabled?
Filters that can't reliably verify data (e.g., shipping address) will falsely flag transactions. Filters that can decline based on real-time checks, like CCV, are safer to enable.
Why should I avoid review-based filters?
Placing transactions “in review” can delay or block ticket delivery and increase support volume. Showpass is optimized for real-time approval or decline decisions.
Will these settings impact my payouts or sales?
No. These filters only affect authorization. Your payouts follow standard schedules, and proper configuration helps prevent declined payments and lost sales.
How do I adjust these settings in Authorize.Net?
Log in to your Authorize.Net Merchant Interface and go to Tools Fraud Detection Suite to modify or enable filters.
