Organizer guide: How to set up custom taxes
You can add and manage custom taxes on your Showpass account. These can be applied at the organization level, event level, or ticket type level. You can also choose whether the tax is included in the ticket price or added on top for the ticket buyer to pay.
Set taxes at the organization level
- Open your dashboard pop-out menu and select Organization Info.
- Go to Financial Settings.
- Enter your Sales Tax Number if applicable, or check Sales Tax Exempt if it applies.
- Select Add new custom fee or tax.
- From the Type dropdown, select Tax.
- Enter a name for the tax, and configure the following options:
- Enabled: Toggle on or off
- Item Type: Tickets, products, or both
- Purchase Platform: Online, in-person, or both
- Payment Type: Card, cash, or both
- Tax Rate: Percentage charged (e.g., 5%)
- Customer Pays: Toggle on if the tax should be added on top of the listed price
- Click Save to apply the rate card.
Note: Taxes added after sales begin will only apply to future transactions.
Set taxes at the event level
Use this option to override or supplement organization-level taxes for specific events. These must be set before any sales occur.

- Configure your rate card as described above, and click Save.

- Click Override and configure your rate card as needed.

- Click Calculate Fees.
- Enter a test amount and choose the item type, platform, and payment method.
- Click Calculate to view the breakdown of tax calculations.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why isn't my tax showing at checkout?
Ensure the correct item type, purchase platform, and payment type are selected in the rate card.
Why are both event and organization taxes being charged?
If you don’t use the “Override” function when editing a tax, both taxes will stack. Be sure to override if replacing the organization-level tax.
Can I edit a tax after sales have started?
Yes, but the change will only apply to new purchases moving forward.
