Box Office: Settings, Square integration, and Auto Check-in
This guide explains how to access your Box Office settings, connect Square for in-person payments, pair a Square Terminal, and configure Auto Check-in for ticket purchases.
In this guide, you will learn how to:
- Access Box Office settings
- Connect your Square account to Showpass
- Verify the Square connection
- Connect a Square Terminal for card-present transactions
- Unpair a Square Terminal
- Enable or disable Auto Check-in
1. Accessing Box Office settings
From the Box Office, use the Box Office navigation bar at the bottom of the screen and click Settings.
2. Connecting your Square account
To accept in-person card payments through the Box Office, you must connect your Square account to Showpass. This enables processing via Square hardware or a virtual terminal. The steps differ slightly depending on which version of the interface you are using.
New UI:
- In the Box Office, navigate to Settings.
- Click the Connect Account button to begin the integration. You will be redirected to the Showpass–Square integration page.
Legacy UI:
- On the integration page, click Connect Square Account.
- You will be redirected to the Square login page — enter your credentials to sign in.
3. Verifying the connection
- Once signed in, you will be returned to Showpass.
- Select your Square Location from the dropdown menu and click Save.
- Your Square account should now appear as connected in the Box Office settings.
4. Connecting a Square Terminal
Your Square account must be connected before pairing a terminal. The Square Terminal enables card-present (tap or insert) transactions directly from the Box Office.
Before you begin: Make sure your Square Terminal is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi. If the Terminal is already signed into a different Square account, sign out of that account on the Terminal first.
- In Box Office settings, click Connect Terminal.
- A modal will appear showing a unique device code. This code expires in approximately 5 minutes — enter it on the Terminal promptly. If it expires, close the modal and click Connect Terminal again to generate a new code.
On your Square Terminal:
- Select Sign In, then choose Use a device code.
- Enter the device code shown in the Showpass modal. Device codes are specific to the Terminal you are pairing — do not enter the code on a different device.
- Return to Showpass and click Check Status in the modal.
If successful:
- You will see a green checkmark next to Connect Square Terminal.
Note: Only one Square Terminal can be paired per Showpass login. If you need to switch to a different Terminal, unpair the current one first.
To unpair the terminal:
- Click the Square Terminal Connected button (green).
- A popup will appear with the option to Unpair the device.
5. Enabling Auto Check-in
When Auto Check-in is enabled, tickets are automatically marked as checked in immediately after purchase through the Box Office. This is useful for on-the-spot sales or events where scanning is not required.
- In the settings panel, locate the Auto Check-in toggle.
- Click to enable or disable Auto Check-in based on your event needs.
Note: This setting applies to all tickets sold through the Box Office. You can also configure the same automatic check-in behaviour per ticket type in your Advanced Ticket Type settings — both achieve the same outcome for the applicable tickets.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
Can I enable Square without a Square account?
No. You must have an active Square account and be logged in to complete the integration.
Why is Auto Check-in not working?
Ensure the Auto Check-in toggle is enabled in Box Office settings and that you are selling tickets through the Box Office, not another interface.
Can I use other payment processors besides Square?
Currently, Square is the only supported in-person payment processor within the Box Office.
Can Auto Check-in be turned on for some ticket types but not others?
The Box Office Auto Check-in toggle applies to all tickets processed through the Box Office when enabled. To configure automatic check-in for a specific ticket type only, use the Advanced Ticket Type settings — both the toggle and the ticket-type setting achieve the same outcome.
