Web Browser Box Office Guide
This guide covers using the Showpass Dashboard's built-in Web Box Office for on-site ticket sales and check-in, with no app installation required. Runs in a browser (Chrome preferred, but works in Edge, Firefox, Safari).
When to use this: You don't want to (or can't) install an app. The Web Box Office is especially useful as a quick, flexible option on a laptop in the browser, or on a tablet browser as a fallback when the iPad app isn't installed.
When not to use this: If you have a laptop or an iPad, the Desktop App and iPad POS app are the preferred paths. They handle printing in-app and don't rely on the Star Web PRNT helper app.
About the current UI
This guide reflects the current (new) Web Box Office UI. If you're still using the older red-header, three-step version, see Legacy Box Office (Retiring).
Overview
The Web Box Office (also called Box Office or Dashboard Box Office) is a browser-based POS built into the Showpass Dashboard. It runs on any device with a web browser. It's the simplest way to start selling tickets on-site because there's nothing to download or install.
What it supports
- General admission and assigned seating events
- Best available seating
- Cash, card, and complimentary ticket payments
- Card payments via Square Terminal (when connected) or manual card entry
- Receipt and ticket printing via Star Web PRNT on iPad/tablet only (still supported, but not the recommended path; see note below)
- Add-ons and merch
- Auto check-in (tickets scanned at purchase)
- Refunds
- Check-in and scanning from the Dashboard
About printing: Star Web PRNT (iPad/tablet only)
Printing from the Web Box Office on iPad/tablet currently runs through a separate helper app called Star Web PRNT. This path still works, but it's no longer the recommended option. For the best printing experience:
- On a laptop: use the Desktop App (direct USB, in-app printing).
- On a tablet: use the iPad POS app (in-app printing).
- On a browser only: Star Web PRNT continues to work as a fallback.
Getting started
- Go to showpass.com and log in with your organizer account.
- Open the Dashboard pop-out menu and select Sell Tix (or navigate to the Box Office section).
- You'll see the Box Office view with Events & Products on the left side. Search or browse for the event you want to sell tickets for.
Connecting a Square Terminal (optional)
If you want to accept card payments via the Web Box Office, connect a Square Terminal. Click Connect Square Terminal in the top right corner of the Box Office view and follow the pairing process. See Square Terminal & Payment Hardware Reference for full instructions.
When the Terminal is connected, a green Square Terminal Connected button appears in the Box Office top bar.
Selling tickets
Step 1: Select event and tickets
From the Box Office view, find your event and click View Tickets (for general admission) or Select Seats (for assigned seating). Select the ticket types and quantities.
Step 2: Cart summary and checkout options
Review the cart with tickets, quantities, and prices. Choose delivery and payment options:
- Delivery method: Print, Email, or None.
- Receipt Delivery: Print, Email, or None.
- Payment Method: Cash, Card, or Complimentary. If paying by card, you can optionally select "Manually enter card details" instead of using the Square Terminal.
Additional options include a Purchase Note field for internal bookkeeping (never displayed to the customer) and a Put on Hold button to save the order for later.
Step 3: Process payment
- Card via Square Terminal: After clicking Process Order with Card selected, the Box Office shows "Awaiting customer payment..." while the Terminal activates for the customer to tap, insert, or swipe.
- Cash: Select Cash and enter the amount received. The system calculates change due.
- Complimentary: Select Complimentary to process a free ticket.
Step 4: Confirmation
The sale is confirmed and the buyer receives tickets via email (or printed, if Star Web PRNT is configured on a tablet and Print was selected). If both receipt and ticket printers are connected via Star Web PRNT, physical receipts and tickets print automatically.
Assigned seating
For events with assigned seating, the Box Office displays the full venue map. Click on sections, then rows and seats to add them to the cart. The map supports both legacy and new seating layouts.
For AI-powered Best Available Seating, see Best Available Seating.
Check-in from the Dashboard
The Showpass Dashboard also supports check-in without the mobile app. Navigate to Check In from the Dashboard menu to access scanning functionality from a desktop browser. This can be used alongside mobile scanning for a multi-device check-in setup.
Check-in presets created on the mobile app are also accessible from the Dashboard.
When to use Web Box Office
- You need to start selling quickly with no setup.
- You don't have iPads or dedicated POS hardware.
- You want a temporary or backup box office on any device with a browser.
- You need assigned seating support but can't install the Desktop App.
For a permanent box office with heavy printing volume, the Desktop App is the better fit, with direct USB printer connections and in-app printing.
Limitations
- No offline capability. Requires a stable internet connection.
- Printing depends on the Star Web PRNT helper app (iPad/tablet only), which is not the recommended path. In-app printing is available in the Desktop App (laptops) and iPad POS app (tablets).
