Scanning memberships

This guide explains how to scan membership passes at events, the different scanning methods available, and what to expect when validating access using the Showpass check-in tools.


Overview

Memberships can be scanned using the Showpass app along with compatible mobile devices or Zebra scanners.

💡 Tip: You can check in members using barcode, QR code, or search — depending on how their membership access is set up.


Selecting memberships

When you launch the check-in flow, you’ll see a tab labeled Memberships. Tap this to choose which membership(s) you want to scan in.

On the next screen, choose which membership levels you'd like to include for scanning. Then tap Start scanning.

Checking in members

Once scanning starts, you have several ways to validate memberships:

  • 🔍 Search for the membership
  • 📱 Scan a universal QR code
  • 🏷️ Scan the member’s barcode

Search for a membership

Use the search bar to look up memberships by name, email, or barcode. This will display all valid access for the selected levels or events.

Scan a universal QR code

Use the Universal QR screen to scan a member's pass. Any access tied to the selected membership and levels will appear.

⚠️ Important: The universal QR screen will only appear if both events and memberships were selected during setup.

Scan a membership barcode

You can also scan membership barcodes directly. If a pass has only one scan or access, the app will skip the confirmation screen and complete the check-in.

Other scenarios:

  • Multiple scan types or levels → the app will prompt for selection
  • If no events are selected, the universal QR acts like a barcode

Scan results

âś… Scan success

If the scan is valid, access is granted immediately. The member is checked in and shown a success message.

❌ Scan error

If the scan fails, you’ll see an error screen. Try the following:

  • 🔍 Double-check the member’s info and barcode
  • đź•“ Confirm their membership is active and not expired
  • 📱 Hold the device farther back from the QR or barcode
